Chemical Peels Improving patient results and care
A medium peel targets a slightly deeper layer of the skin and causes sloughing within 5 to 7 days. There is some redness immediately after the treatment with some associated swelling. The skin turns brown in color after a day and the peeling process begins a few days later.
A deep peel has the most profound results and helps treat wrinkles, scars, and blemishes. This peel targets the dermis and in some cases anesthesia is required to reduce the hot stinging sensation. The skin goes from red with swelling and some blistering to brown with a crust before peeling many layers over a period of 1-2 weeks.
What is a chemical peel?
Chemical peels are acid solutions applied to the skin to aid in the restoration of the skin’s surface. They work by creating a controlled shedding of several layers of the skin. This helps reduce the appearance age spots, blemishes, sun-damaged skin, fine lines, and wrinkles, and improves overall complexion.
What types of peels are there?
There are several types of peels depending on the desired depth of action. A superficial peel helps smooth coarse dry skin and even out skin tone. It has a rapid recovery with minor flaking. Regular repeated treatments are indicated to obtain the desired result over a period of time. Downtime is minimal and with good sun protection, you can immediately resume regular activities.
How is the treatment done?
The chemical peel solution is administered by one of our skin care professionals. They will apply one or more layers of the solution based on your specific needs and safely control the reaction with a buffer solution once the desired level of treatment has been reached. As a result of the treatment, the skin can naturally repair itself and allow for fresh new skin to be revealed after the dead layers slough off.
